How much can I earn tax-free on the side in Belgium?
Surprisingly much — if you pick the right route. The queen is the flexi-job: anyone with a 4/5 main job (three quarters earlier) or a pension earns in hospitality, retail, care and dozens of sectors tax-free up to ±€18,440 a year (2026) — note: early pensioners under 66 with fewer than 45 career years cap at ±€8,120. Alongside sits association work (article 17) for sport and socio-cultural sectors: up to ±€7,460 (2026) exempt. Smaller routes: occasional citizen services and the sharing economy via approved platforms (own caps, a 10.7 % levy) — and selling your own second-hand stuff stays untaxed. Outside those frames it's simply taxable — or undeclared work.
📋 The rules

- Article-17 association work (sport/culture): ±€7,460 exempt
- Sharing economy via approved platforms: own cap, 10.7 % levy

🔓 Exceptions
- Students: a separate statute (650 hours) — see student jobs

⚠️ Penalties & fines
Earning outside the frames without declaring = tax fraud/undeclared work: back taxes, fines and social-security regularisation. Unmet flexi conditions: requalification with clawbacks.
