Can I put solar panels on my balcony?
Yes — since 17 April 2025 plug-and-play solar panels are allowed across Belgium, with a homologated device and, in a flat, the co-ownership's approval. Previously every solar setup had to be hard-wired; since Synergrid rule C10/11 (edition 2.3), a panel with an ordinary plug into a socket is permitted. Conditions: the device is on the official Synergrid plug-and-play list and CE-marked, and total inverter power stays under 800 watts (about two balcony panels). Above 800 W, or if you still have an analogue meter, you must notify your grid operator within 30 days (Fluvius, which then fits a digital meter). You don't need your home wiring re-inspected: a plug-in device counts as an appliance, not a fixed installation. Watch out in a flat: a balcony or façade is usually a common part, so you need the general assembly's (co-ownership) approval to attach panels. In Wallonia you declare via the UP10 form, in Brussels to Sibelga.
📋 The rules
- Allowed since 17 April 2025 across Belgium (Synergrid C10/11, edition 2.3)
- The device must be on the Synergrid plug-and-play list and CE-marked
- Up to 800 W inverter power: no notification with a digital meter
- Above 800 W or with an analogue meter: notify Fluvius within 30 days
- No re-inspection: a plug-in device is an appliance, not a fixed installation
- Flat: balcony/façade is usually common — the co-ownership's approval is needed
🔓 Exceptions
- Wallonia: declaration via the UP10 form and a communicating meter before commissioning
- Brussels: declaration to Sibelga within 30 days of commissioning
⚠️ Penalties & fines
The risk is less a fine than lost benefits: not notifying a device that needs it (over 800 W or on an analogue meter) means no or delayed feed-in payment and, meanwhile, the prosumer tariff charged on the device's power. A non-homologated or non-CE device is not allowed on the grid. And attaching panels to a common façade without the co-ownership's approval can trigger a demand to remove them.

❓ Frequently asked
Can I just plug a panel into a socket?
Since 17 April 2025, yes, if the device is on the Synergrid plug-and-play list and CE-marked. Up to 800 W with a digital meter, no notification is even required.
What if I still have an analogue meter?
Then you must notify the device to Fluvius within 30 days, whatever the power. Fluvius fits a digital meter; meanwhile the prosumer tariff applies to the device's power.
Does my installation need re-inspecting?
No. A plug-in device counts as an appliance, not a change to your fixed installation, so no new inspection is needed — the socket circuit must of course be sound.
I rent or live in a flat — is it allowed?
A balcony or façade is usually a common part, so you need the general assembly's (co-ownership) approval to attach panels. Ask first; a tenant should also check with the owner.
