Can I get the Single Allowance for children?
Yes: it's universal, it goes to all families with dependent children. The Single Universal Allowance (AUU) is the main financial support for families with children, replacing the previous bonuses and deductions. It's due from the seventh month of pregnancy and until the child is 21 (if a student, in a traineeship, unemployed or on low income), and with no age limit for disabled children. The amount depends on ISEE and the number and age of children: in 2026 it ranges from about €58 to €204 per child a month, with increases (young children, large families, under-21 mothers, disability). The 2026 ISEE bands run from about €17,468 (full amount) to €46,583. The claim is filed with INPS; for those who already have one it's renewed automatically.
📋 The rules
- Universal: it goes to all families with dependent children
- From the 7th month of pregnancy until age 21 (with conditions)
- No age limit for disabled children
- Amount based on ISEE: 2026 from ~€58 to €204 per child
- Claim with INPS; automatic renewal for existing ones
🔓 Exceptions
- Without ISEE (or high ISEE): you still get the minimum amount
- Increases for young children, large families, under-21 mothers, disability
- Adult children (18-21): conditions of study, work or unemployment
⚠️ Penalties & fines
The AUU carries no "sanctions": it's a right. What matters is filing the claim and keeping the ISEE up to date: without a valid ISEE you only get the minimum. If you don't file the DSU for the ISEE by February, you can do so by 30 June with recalculation and arrears from March. You must report household changes (births, children turning 21, changes of condition). False declarations in the ISEE or the claim entail repaying what was unduly received. The claim is filed online on the INPS portal with SPID/CIE/CNS or through a patronato.

❓ Frequently asked
Who is entitled to the Single Allowance?
All families with dependent children, as it's a universal measure. It's due from the seventh month of pregnancy until the child is 21 (if studying, working little or unemployed) and with no age limit for disabled children. You don't need a low income to get it.
How much is the Single Allowance in 2026?
The amount depends on the ISEE and the number and age of children and, in 2026, ranges from about 58 to 204 euros a month per child, with possible increases (young children, large families, under-21 mothers, disability). Without ISEE or with a high ISEE you get the minimum.
Do I need the ISEE for the Single Allowance?
It's not mandatory, but without a valid ISEE you only get the minimum amount. With the ISEE you get the full amount for your band. It's best to file the DSU for the ISEE by February; those who file by 30 June get arrears from March.
Do I have to reapply every year?
No. For those who already have an accepted claim, the Single Allowance is renewed automatically by INPS, unless the claim has lapsed, been revoked or rejected. But you must update the ISEE each year and report household changes.
Is it due for adult children too?
Yes, until age 21, if the child is studying, attends a training course or traineeship, works on a low income, is registered as unemployed or does civil service. For disabled children the allowance is due with no age limit.
