Temu fined €200 million over unsafe products

Temu was the first marketplace fined under the DSA for unsafe products; Shein is under investigation.

On 28 May 2026 the Commission fined Temu €200 million under the Digital Services Act for an inadequate assessment of the risk of illegal and unsafe products on its marketplace; test purchases found chargers and baby toys that failed safety tests. Temu had to present an action plan. Formal proceedings against Shein opened on 17 February 2026, and AliExpress was fined €550 million on 20 July.
