May a minor get a tattoo in Liechtenstein?

- The 2010 ordinance regulates hygiene, not age: based on the Health Act, it orders rooms, instruments, disinfection, sterilisation and customer information; enforcement lies with the Office of Food Control and Veterinary Affairs.

- The foreign rule does not apply automatically: Austria bans tattoos under 16 and requires consent up to 18, and Germany has its parental note — both are foreign statutes that do not directly bite in Liechtenstein.
- What reputable studios do: because the legal position is blurred, many studios require the written consent of the parents and their presence — or tattoo no minors at all. That is the safe reading.

- Adults decide alone: from 18 consent is unproblematic — the adult decides over their own body, without the consent of others.
- With parental consent: given sufficient maturity and the consent of the parents, a studio may tattoo a minor — but it is not obliged to, and the law prescribes no exact age.
- Hygiene and ink standards always apply: regardless of age, the conformity of the inks and the hygiene requirements must be met; the Office of Food Control and Veterinary Affairs checks this.

Breaches of the hygiene requirements of the tattoo ordinance can be sanctioned with fines under the Health Act, and the Office of Food Control and Veterinary Affairs can inspect and object to businesses; we do not state the concrete franc amounts, because they could not be cleanly sourced. More delicate is consent: if a studio tattoos a minor without valid consent, the justification for the intrusion is missing — the artist then faces claims for bodily harm, in civil and possibly criminal law. For the child there remain health risks (infection, allergic reaction) and, later, high removal costs and regret. Not obvious: the parents share responsibility within parental care, and a studio that ignores the legal position risks its reputation and its permit.
