Can I work at 15?
Since 4 May 2026 you can work as a student at 15 — even while still in full-time compulsory education — but only for light, non-industrial work. Child labour is in principle forbidden under 15 (Labour Act, art. 7). Student work is possible since 4 May 2026 from 15, but then only for light, non-industrial work (Royal Decree of 19 April 2026); previously it was possible only from 16, or from 15 after the first two years of secondary. For young workers (15–18), protective limits apply: at most 8 hours a day and 38 hours a week, a break after 4.5 hours, at least 12 hours' rest between two shifts, no night work and in principle no Sunday work. As a student worker you work at a favourable rate within a quota of 650 hours a year (since 1 January 2025). For children who perform or model (theatre, film, advertising exceptions) an individual exemption from the labour-inspection service is needed.
