ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox join the EU’s strictest platform rules

Each has at least 45 million monthly users in the EU, so the toughest Digital Services Act duties apply.

On 31 August 2026 the Commission designated ChatGPT as a very large online search engine and Reddit and Roblox as very large online platforms under the Digital Services Act. That puts them in the same group as Google, Instagram and TikTok. They must assess and reduce risks such as illegal content, harm to minors, users’ mental and physical well-being and threats to elections, and they are supervised directly by the Commission.
