Can I tune my pedelec / e-bike?
No. A normal pedelec only assists up to 25 km/h and counts as a bicycle. If you fit a tuning chip or remove the limit, it goes faster — and becomes a motor vehicle. Result: the type approval lapses, the insurance cover ends, and you suddenly need a insurance plate, driving licence and helmet. Riding a tuned pedelec in traffic is a criminal offence — chiefly riding without insurance and possibly without a licence. In a crash you're fully liable.
