How many points in Flensburg can I have?
Up to 7 points you keep your licence – at 8 points it is revoked. Points are given only for final decisions on offences listed in Annex 13 of the Driving Licence Regulation; according to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), administrative offences count only with a fine of at least €60 or a driving ban. They bring 1 or 2 points, criminal offences 2 or 3. At 4 or 5 points the licensing authority sends you a written reminder, at 6 or 7 a formal warning. Each entry is deleted on its own: after 2 years and 6 months (1-point offence), 5 years (2 points or criminal offence) or 10 years (criminal offence with licence revoked). The KBA tells you your points free of charge – online with your online ID, by post or in person in Flensburg.
📋 The rules
- Points only for final decisions on offences in Annex 13 FeV; administrative offences only from a €60 fine or with a driving ban
- 1 point: offences that impair road safety · 2 points: particularly dangerous administrative offences and criminal offences without revocation · 3 points: criminal offences with the licence revoked or a ban
- 1–3 points: recorded, no measure yet
- 4–5 points: written reminder
- 6–7 points: written warning
- 8 points: you are deemed unfit to drive and the licence is revoked
- Several offences in one act: only the one with the most points counts
🔓 Exceptions
- Removing a point: a voluntary driver fitness seminar takes off 1 point at 1–5 points – only once in five years, and only if you show the certificate to the licensing authority within two weeks
- From 6 points the seminar brings no deduction
- No step is skipped: if you reach 6 or more points without an earlier reminder, or 8 or more without an earlier warning, your total is cut to 5 or 7 points and the missing measure is taken first
- The deletion period runs from the date the decision became final; after it, the entry stays on file for one more year and can still be used for measures
- New drivers: the probationary licence rules apply as well
⚠️ Penalties & fines
At 8 points the licensing authority revokes your licence. A new one can be issued at the earliest six months after the revocation takes effect, and as a rule the authority first orders an assessment by an officially recognised driver fitness centre (the “MPU”). Points from decisions that became final before the new licence are then deleted. The fines themselves depend on the catalogue entry for each offence.

When do points in Flensburg expire?
Each entry has its own deletion period, counted from the date the decision became final: 2 years and 6 months for administrative offences with 1 point, 5 years for administrative offences with 2 points and for criminal offences, 10 years for criminal offences with the licence revoked or a ban. After that the entry stays on file for one more year.
Can I reduce my points in Flensburg?
Yes, by one point: if you have 1 to 5 points, attend a driver fitness seminar voluntarily and show the certificate to the licensing authority within two weeks, 1 point is deducted. This works only once in five years. From 6 points there is no deduction for the seminar.
What happens at 8 points?
You are deemed unfit to drive motor vehicles and your licence is revoked. A new licence can be issued at the earliest six months after the revocation takes effect; as a rule you must first prove with an assessment (MPU) that you are fit to drive again.
From what fine do you get a point?
According to the KBA, administrative offences listed in Annex 13 of the Driving Licence Regulation get points when a fine of at least €60 or a driving ban is imposed. Smaller warning fines bring no points.
