Can I wash my car on the driveway?

Break the municipal police regulation — washing on the public road, letting soapy water run into the gutter or the drain — and you risk a GAS fine. The maximum for adults rose to 500 euros with the reform of 8 January 2024, but that higher cap only applies where the municipality actually updated its regulation; elsewhere 350 euros remains the maximum, and 175 euros for minors. If polluted wash water reaches the rainwater sewer or surface water, it does not stop at the police regulation: that can be prosecuted as a heavier environmental offence.
