Can a child sit in the front seat in Czechia?
Yes — there is no age limit for the front seat; the car seat decides. The popular "from age 12" is a myth: a child under 150 cm and 36 kg must ride in a proper car seat or booster — and in it may sit in front at any age, newborns included. The one hard condition: a rear-facing seat must never face an active airbag — switch it off. Safety-wise the back seat remains markedly safer for children. The driver bears the sanction: CZK 1,500–2,000 on the spot plus 4 points for an unseated child. Since September 2024 new R44-standard seats can't be sold — using ones you own stays legal.
