Can I drive a car at 17 in Czechia?
Yes — the L17 scheme has run since 1 January 2024. You finish driving school and exams at 17 and receive a category B licence — but until your 18th birthday you may drive only accompanied by a mentor recorded in the driver register. A mentor needs category B for at least 10 years, no driving ban in the last 5 years and 0 penalty points; you may register up to 4 mentors (the first entries free with the licence application, later additions CZK 100). The mentor sits in the front seat, watches traffic and must be sober. At 18 the restriction disappears automatically.
