Can I fly a drone in Czechia?
Yes — but nearly every drone now requires registration. Under EU rules (2019/947) you must register as an operator with the Civil Aviation Authority (ÚCL) and pass the A1/A3 online test once your drone has a camera or weighs 250 g or more. Flying happens in the open category: A1 (lightest drones), A2 (class C2 closer to people, extra exam) and A3 — min. 150 m from residential, commercial and industrial areas. Always max. 120 m above ground and within visual line of sight. The classic mistake is relying on weight: a camera triggers the duty too, so even a 249 g DJI Mini must be registered. ⚠️ Penalties & fines
Civil Aviation Act misdemeanours usually run from thousands to tens of thousands of crowns; for serious breaches — flying in a restricted zone, over a crowd, endangering aircraft — the fine reaches CZK 100,000 and criminal liability can follow. The easiest breach to prove is the silliest one: a missing operator registration or an operator ID not stuck on the drone. If your drone injures someone or damages property, you pay for it, and a standard home policy may not cover drone flying. Targeted filming of people adds privacy and GDPR exposure on top.

Must I register a DJI Mini (249 g)?
Yes. It has a camera, and that alone triggers operator registration and the A1/A3 test — staying under 250 g does not save you. It may, however, fly in subcategory A1, that is closer to people.
Can I fly over Prague?
Central Prague is a restricted zone that ordinary drones cannot enter without permission. Check the zone in the official DroneMap app before each flight — boundaries change and ignorance will not save you from a fine.
How high can I go?
Max 120 m above ground and always within visual line of sight — you must see the drone with your own eyes, not merely track it on the screen. Flying beyond the horizon breaches the rules even if nothing goes wrong.
Can I film my neighbours?
No. Targeted filming of people on private property breaches privacy rules and GDPR regardless of the flight itself being legal. Beyond the aviation fine you risk a civil claim from the people you filmed.
What about national parks?
