Can I set off fireworks in Czechia?
It depends where — much stricter rules apply since 1 December 2025. The amended Pyrotechnics Act created 250-metre protection zones around hospitals, care homes, animal shelters, rescue stations, zoos and livestock farms, where anything stronger than a sparkler is banned. Municipalities can also ban category F2 and F3 fireworks (firecrackers, rockets, cake batteries) by decree — the Ministry of Agriculture runs a map of the banned zones. Only category F1 (sparklers, small table fountains) stays freely usable, and towns cannot ban it. The common mistake: New Year's Eve is not an automatic exemption — the 250 m zones apply on 31 December too. Fines reach CZK 10,000 on the spot and CZK 100,000 in proceedings.

⚠️ Penalties & fines
Breaking a ban costs up to CZK 10,000 on the spot and up to CZK 100,000 in administrative proceedings — a tenfold gap, so escalating the dispute rarely pays. Inside the protection zones liability for damage stacks on top: a bolted horse, an injured shelter animal or a fire started by a falling rocket all land on whoever set the fireworks off, and the injured party recovers the cost from you. Where harm to an animal is proven, animal-cruelty charges are possible. Police can also enforce the ban repeatedly in one night — each further launch is a separate offence.
