What is the speeding tolerance in Czechia?
There is no allowed buffer — only the radar's measurement margin. That margin is 3 km/h at speeds up to 100 km/h and 3 % above 100 km/h, deducted automatically before the offence is assessed; it is not a bonus you may add to the limit. Fines since the 2024 reform: up to 10 km/h over on the spot up to CZK 1,500 and no points; 10–19 km/h CZK 1,500–2,000 and 2 points; 20–39 km/h CZK 2,500–3,500 and 4 points; 40 km/h or more over in a town (50+ outside towns) administrative proceedings, CZK 7,000–25,000, 6 points and a 6–18 month ban. Points add up: 12 points means surrendering the licence for a year, and two top-band offences are enough.

Can I do 55 km/h in a 50 zone?
No. After the 3 km/h margin is deducted, 55 km/h is still 2 km/h over and therefore a finable offence — in the mildest band, up to CZK 1,500 and no points. The margin is not a permitted top-up.
How many points until I lose my licence?
12 points means surrendering the licence for 12 months. The worst speeding offences carry 6 points at once, so two of them are enough to wipe you out — and 40+ km/h over in town is exactly such an offence.
How does section measurement work?
The system averages your speed between two cameras, so braking only at the second one does not help. The measurement margin is deducted exactly as with a normal radar, and the fine and point bands are identical.
Is there a difference between on-the-spot and administrative fines?
Yes, and a big one: in the 20–39 km/h band you pay CZK 2,500–3,500 on the spot but CZK 4,000–10,000 in administrative proceedings, plus the costs of the case. The points stay the same either way — only the money changes.
