What must I get before I sign a phone or internet contract in Ireland, and can I change my mind?
Before you sign, the provider must give you a free contract summary: its contact details, the main service features, prices, duration, renewal and termination terms and, for broadband, the speeds. It becomes part of the contract and cannot change without your express agreement.
Before you sign, you should get the key terms in writing: price, term, speed and how to leave. In many countries a short contract summary is required, and contracts made online, by phone or at your door usually come with a cooling-off period. The rules for Ireland are below.

The details
- Signed up online or by phone: you can cancel within 14 days of the contract being concluded. Door-to-door sale: 30 days. There is no cooling-off period for contracts signed in a shop. (comreg.ie)
- If the provider does not tell you how and when to cancel, your right to cancel is extended by 12 months. If it tells you within that time, you have 14 days from then. (comreg.ie)
- If the summary cannot be given before signing for objective technical reasons, it must follow without undue delay, and the contract only takes effect once you confirm after receiving it. (irishstatutebook.ie)
- Key contract information must reach you on a durable medium, such as paper or a PDF attached to an email, that you can store and that stays unchanged. (comreg.ie)
