📦 I am moving house: what happens to my internet contract in Ireland?

The short answer

Moving house does not by itself let you end a phone or broadband contract free of charge. You may be able to transfer the service to your new address until the contract ends, but the provider does not have to agree.

When you move, your provider may be able to take the service with you. If it cannot offer the same service at the new address, you may be able to end the contract. The rules for Ireland are below.

The details

  • If you cancel within your minimum term, the provider may charge an early termination fee, usually what you would have paid for the rest of the contract. Ask the provider what alternatives it offers. (comreg.ie)
  • Once your contract has renewed automatically after its fixed term, you can end it at any time with at most one month's notice. (irishstatutebook.ie)
  • Check which broadband networks reach your new address by entering the address or Eircode in ComReg's free Broadband Checker. (comreg.ie)
