What does a passport cost, and how fast can I get one?
Fifty euros — if you are not in a hurry. The fees in force since 1 April 2024 are graded by both age and speed. A citizen over 16 pays €50 on the standard 30-day timeline, €100 for issue within 10 days and €150 for issue within 2 days. Children are cheaper: from 6 to 16 it is €20 / €40 / €60, and under 6 just €12 / €24 / €36. Validity is 10 years for adults, 5 years for children from 6 to 16 and 2 years for the youngest. The fee is paid when the application is filed, through the eKolok system.

- No fee is due where the manufacturer or the authority made the error
- No fee is due for entering a severe-disability record in a valid document
⚠️ Penalties & fines
Express costs you triple. The difference between €50 and €150 lies solely in whether you apply a month ahead or two days before the flight — the document itself is identical. Check the expiry date before you buy the ticket: many non-EU countries require a passport valid for a further six months after your return, so "it has a few months left on it" may not be enough. In some cases no fee is payable at all: where the passport is issued as a replacement for a valid document because of a change you did not cause, or where an error by the manufacturer or the authority was found in it. The fee is paid on filing, not on collection.
