💾 Can I download films for free in Hungary?

Half of downloading is legal, the other half isn't — and torrents do exactly the wrong half. A quirk of Hungarian copyright: private-use downloading (no profit motive, own use) is not punished as such — lawmakers 'bought out' private copying via blank-media levies. Except the torrent protocol uploads back automatically while downloading (seeding), and sharing protected content is plainly infringing: communication to the public never fits the private-copy exception. The ladder: below 100,000 HUF in harm it's a misdemeanour, above it a crime (heavier when commercial). The practical picture: Hungarian law currently doesn't oblige ISPs to hand over torrent users' IPs for civil claims, so the German-style mass warning-letter industry never took off here — but the exposure is real, above all for uploaders and tracker operators. The clean route is subscription streaming — and watching from 'link farms' is a zone even greyer than downloading.
