📦 I am moving house: what happens to my internet contract in France?

The short answer

When you move, check what your contract says about moving and ask your internet provider. If it has no offer available at your new address, you can cancel without fees for a legitimate reason.

When you move, your provider may be able to take the service with you. If it cannot offer the same service at the new address, you may be able to end the contract. The rules for France are below.

📜 The rules in France

The details

  • The main operators' common list of legitimate reasons includes a move in mainland France that makes the service unavailable, and a long-term move abroad. Attach proof to your request. (arcep.fr)
  • If you move but keep the same operator, it may let you keep your landline number or give you a new one: the right to port a number applies only when you change operator. (arcep.fr)
  • Activation at the new home is quicker if the line is already connected; if a technician must connect it, expect usually at least 10 days for a copper line. (arcep.fr)
  • Check the technologies, operators and maximum speeds available at your new address on Arcep's 'Ma connexion internet' map. (arcep.fr)
