How much is the family state benefit in Latvia?
It depends on the number of children — and it does not rise in a straight line. The family state benefit is €25 a month for one child, €100 a month for two, €225 a month for three, and for four or more — €100 a month for each child. So the third child changes the whole calculation, rather than simply adding another flat rate. And from 2026 there is an important extension: the benefit is also paid for children aged 16 to 20 who study at a college or university full-time and in person — until now it was paid only for those in general or vocational education. The benefit is granted by the social insurance agency, on application.

For four or more the calculation shifts again: €100 per child. So when a third child arrives, check that the agency has recalculated your entitlement, rather than assuming it happens by itself. And mind the 2026 change: if your child is 16 to 20 and studies full-time at a college or university, the benefit continues — previously it stopped the moment they chose higher education. An application must go to the agency, and simply not knowing about an entitlement is the commonest way money is lost in this area.
