Fixed price or dynamic (hourly) electricity contract in Slovakia: which is right for me?
A fixed price stays the same for an agreed period. A dynamic price follows the wholesale market hour by hour, so it can be cheaper when you shift your use, and more expensive at peak times.
📜 The rules in Slovakia
Fixed and dynamic contracts
Slovak law knows both: a fixed-price contract for a fixed term and a dynamic-price contract whose price follows the day-ahead and intraday markets. A supplier with more than 100,000 supply points must sign either one if you ask, meet its terms and, for a dynamic price, have a smart meter; a refusal must be justified.
- Before you sign a dynamic-price contract the supplier must explain in writing how the price is formed, warn you of the benefits and risks, and tell you that a smart meter is needed and is not always installed free of charge. (static.slov-lex.sk)
- A fixed-price fixed-term contract you ask for must run at least 12 months; the supplier must warn you of its benefits and risks and that a change of supplier before it ends is not possible. (static.slov-lex.sk)
- Every contract must say whether the price is fixed, dynamic or set in another way, and what one-off payments, extra services or discounts apply; the supplier must also explain the benefits and risks of both types on its website and in its shops. (static.slov-lex.sk)

Can a fixed price still go up?
Normally not during the fixed period, but taxes and network charges can change. The rules for Slovakia are on this page.
