Can I brew beer and distil spirits at home in Sweden?
It depends what you do — brewing is allowed, but distilling spirits is banned. Under the Alcohol Act you may make fermented drinks such as beer, wine and cider at home for your own use without a permit, with no quantity cap for genuine own use. But it is forbidden to distil spirits, even for personal use, and no permit can be obtained. "Spirits" is a liquid with more than 2.25% alcohol by volume produced by distillation. Possessing or making a distillation apparatus is also illegal. Selling home brew needs a manufacturing permit.
