What is the fine for speeding?
No — and the fine climbs steeply. Penalties sit in article 182 of the Road Traffic Act and depend on whether you are in a built-up area. In town: up to 10 km/h — BGN 20 (≈€10); 11–20 km/h — BGN 50 (≈€26); 21–30 km/h — BGN 100 (≈€51); 31–40 km/h — BGN 400 (≈€204); 41–50 km/h — BGN 600 (≈€307) plus a 2-month ban; above 50 km/h — BGN 700 (≈€358) plus a 3-month ban. Outside built-up areas the mid-range amounts are lower, and above 50 km/h it is BGN 600 and 2 months. Every further 5 km/h over 50 adds BGN 50. Pay the electronic ticket within 14 days for 30% off — and from 29 May 2026 penalty points come off electronic tickets too.
