Can I grow and keep cannabis at home in Czechia?
Yes — since 1 January 2026 home growing is legal in Czechia, but only within strict limits. Anyone 21 or older may grow up to 3 cannabis plants (including THC above 1 %) and possess up to 100 g of dried cannabis at home and 25 g outside the home. The limits count per person, not per household. You may grow only in property you own or rent, and the plants must not be visible from public spaces — an open balcony facing the street does not qualify. The common mistake: 4–5 plants is a misdemeanour and 6 or more a criminal offence starting at one year, and giving or selling any amount to another person remains a crime — even a few grams handed to a friend for free. From 6 plants the case turns criminal — sentences start at 1 year and reach 18 years for organised forms, plus a criminal record that complicates employment for years. Selling and giving cannabis away are criminal at any quantity, and it is the person who handed it over who is prosecuted. Driving after use is punished separately: zero THC tolerance means a fine, a ban and possible prosecution.
