How much speed-camera margin do I get in Finland?
A little — but there is no such thing as legal speeding. Every measurement gets a technical deduction: 3 km/h up to 100 km/h and 3% above that. After the deduction, camera intervention thresholds sit at roughly 7 or 21 km/h depending on the device. But a threshold is not a permission: speeding is an offence from the moment the needle passes the limit, and police can act below the camera threshold. Up to 20 km/h over brings a €70–200 traffic penalty fee; beyond that you move into income-based day-fines — and big overspeeds risk a driving ban.

🔓 Exceptions
- No penalty fee if other violations occur at the same time — the whole case then goes to the fine procedure.
- 'Necessary' speeding while overtaking is not a legal basis — limits bind during overtakes too.
- Repeated small overspeeds accumulate towards a driving ban: three offences in a year, or four in two, is enough to trigger consideration.
