How long can a phone or internet contract last in Czechia, and how do I end it?
A fixed-term contract for phone or internet may last at most 24 months for a consumer; a longer term makes it an indefinite contract. After an automatic renewal you can cancel at any time, free of charge, with at most one month's notice.
Phone and internet contracts often start with a minimum term and then run on. How long that first term may be, and how much notice you give once it is over, depends on the rules in Czechia.

- At least 1 month before an automatic renewal, the provider must tell you in text form when the contract ends, how to cancel and its best prices. It must also tell you its best prices at least once a year. (e-sbirka.gov.cz)
- Ending a fixed-term contract early: a charge is allowed only if it ends within 3 months of signing, at most one twentieth of the remaining monthly fees, calculated from the price you actually pay, not the list price. (e-sbirka.gov.cz)
- If you keep a subsidised phone or device, you pay for it, but no more than the lower of its pro-rata agreed value or the service payments left. Any lock to other networks must then be removed free of charge. (e-sbirka.gov.cz)
- Ordering extra services or a device from the same provider does not extend your contract unless you expressly agree to that. (ctu.gov.cz)
- In a bundle with internet or a phone number: if you may end one part early because of faulty service or another breach, you may end the whole bundle. (ctu.gov.cz)
