What must I get before I sign a phone or internet contract in Czechia, and can I change my mind?
Before you sign, the provider must give you, free of charge, a short and easy-to-read contract summary, also for distance contracts. If that is technically impossible, you get it right after, and the contract takes effect only once you confirm your agreement.
Before you sign, you should get the key terms in writing: price, term, speed and how to leave. In many countries a short contract summary is required, and contracts made online, by phone or at your door usually come with a cooling-off period. The rules for Czechia are below.
📜 The rules in Czechia
The details
- Contracts made at a distance (online, by phone) or off-premises: you may withdraw within 14 days without giving a reason, counted from the day after you receive the required information. If you weren't told about this right, the period is extended by a year. (ctu.gov.cz)
- Since 6 January 2023 a phone call can only be an offer: the provider must send you the contract in text form, and it is concluded only when you accept it by signing or electronically, e.g. by SMS or email. (ctu.gov.cz)
- There is no 14-day withdrawal for contracts signed in a provider's shop, so prepare before you go. (ctu.gov.cz)
- You can withdraw by any clear statement; ČTÚ recommends writing with proof of delivery and offers a model form. Handing it over or posting it on the last day of the period is enough. (ctu.gov.cz)
- What the provider told you before signing becomes part of the contract, unless you expressly agreed otherwise. (e-sbirka.gov.cz)
