How do I switch my phone or internet provider in Czechia?
To change internet provider, ask the new provider: it leads the switch and notifies the old one within 1 working day. The old provider must keep serving you on the same terms until the new service works; interruption may not exceed 1 working day.
Switching is mostly paperwork: the network stays where it is, only the company that provides your service changes. Who arranges the switch and how long the service may be down depends on the rules in Czechia.

The details
- You need the verification code for changing internet provider, which you will find in your contract. Hand it to the new provider and agree the date of the switch with it. (ctu.gov.cz)
- Your contract with the old provider ends on the day the switch is completed, unless you ask for another date. Contract terms that discourage switching have no legal effect. (e-sbirka.gov.cz)
- A consumer can be charged for ending a fixed-term contract early only if it ends within 3 months of signing, and at most one twentieth of the remaining monthly fees. A subsidised device you keep must be paid off. (ctu.gov.cz)
- If the switch is delayed or misused because a provider broke its duties, you get flat-rate compensation: 200 Kč per started day of delay (400 Kč from day 6) and 600 Kč per day of misuse. (e-sbirka.gov.cz)
- ČTÚ's official price and quality comparison tool ranks services from the cheapest for the usage you enter. (ctu.gov.cz)

❓ Questions
Will I be without phone or internet when I switch?
There can be a short break on the switching day. Ask both providers for the planned date, and see the rules for Czechia on this page.
Can I switch before my contract ends?
Yes, but while the minimum term is still running you may have to pay an exit fee or the remaining monthly charges. Check your contract summary first.
Do I have to cancel the old contract myself?
That depends on the service and the rules in Czechia. Ask the new provider and keep written confirmation of the end date.
