📅 How long can a phone or internet contract last in Liechtenstein, and how do I end it?

The short answer

A consumer phone or internet contract may bind you for at most 24 months. If it renews automatically, you can then cancel at any time with at most one month's notice, paying only for use during the notice period (VKND Art. 17).

Phone and internet contracts often start with a minimum term and then run on. How long that first term may be, and how much notice you give once it is over, depends on the rules in Liechtenstein.

📜 The rules in Liechtenstein

The details

  • Before an automatic renewal, the provider must tell you clearly, in good time and on a durable medium that the contract is ending and how to cancel. It must also advise you on your best tariff at least once a year (VKND Art. 17). (gesetze.li)
  • Ordering extra services or devices from the same provider may not extend your original contract term, unless you expressly agree to it when ordering (VKND Art. 18). (gesetze.li)
  • If you may leave early, the provider can only charge for a subsidised device you keep: at most its pro-rata value agreed at signing or the remaining service fees, whichever is lower (VKND Art. 17). (gesetze.li)
