📈 My phone or internet price is going up: can I leave my contract in Liechtenstein?

The short answer

If your provider announces a change to your contract terms, such as a price rise, you may cancel at no extra cost. It must tell you one month ahead on a durable medium; you then have one month to cancel (VKND Art. 17).

When a provider changes the price or terms during your contract, you may have the right to leave without a fee. That depends on what your contract already said about price changes and on the rules in Liechtenstein.

📜 The rules in Liechtenstein

The details

  • There is no exit right only if the change is solely to your benefit, purely administrative with no negative effect on you, or directly required by a change in the law (VKND Art. 17). (gesetze.li)
  • Changes to general terms or price lists that are not solely in your favour must be published and notified to the AK three months ahead. The AK can object to unlawful terms, but not to the level of prices (VKND Art. 15). (gesetze.li)

❓ Questions

Is a price rise linked to inflation allowed?

It can be, if the contract set it out clearly. Whether it gives you a right to leave is in the rules for Liechtenstein on this page.

How much warning must the provider give?

Providers usually have to tell you before the change starts. Where the rules in Liechtenstein set a notice period, it is on this page.

What if I miss the deadline to leave?

The new price then usually applies. You can still leave at the end of the minimum term, or with notice if the contract already runs on.
