How do I switch my phone or internet provider in Liechtenstein?
Your new internet provider runs the switch and the old one must cooperate. Your service may be interrupted for at most one working day, and your old contract ends automatically once the switch is complete (VKND Art. 29).
Switching is mostly paperwork: the network stays where it is, only the company that provides your service changes. Who arranges the switch and how long the service may be down depends on the rules in Liechtenstein.
📜 The rules in Liechtenstein
The details
- The switch needs your express consent and the new service must start on the day you agreed. Until the switch has succeeded, the old provider must keep serving you on the same terms (VKND Art. 29). (gesetze.li)
- Contract terms may not set a notice period longer than one month or charge you for ending the contract. A minimum term of up to 24 months can still bind you (KomG Art. 17). (gesetze.li)
- If your internet contract came with an email address under the provider's name, you can ask for your emails to be forwarded free of charge for 12 months after the contract ends (VKND Art. 26). (gesetze.li)
Amt für Kommunikation (AK)
Liechtenstein's regulator for electronic communications. It supervises providers and acts as the official conciliation body for disputes between consumers and phone or internet providers.

❓ Questions
Will I be without phone or internet when I switch?
There can be a short break on the switching day. Ask both providers for the planned date, and see the rules for Liechtenstein on this page.
Can I switch before my contract ends?
Yes, but while the minimum term is still running you may have to pay an exit fee or the remaining monthly charges. Check your contract summary first.
Do I have to cancel the old contract myself?
That depends on the service and the rules in Liechtenstein. Ask the new provider and keep written confirmation of the end date.
