📦 I am moving house: what happens to my internet contract in Portugal?

The short answer

Moving house during a lock-in? First ask your operator whether, and on what terms, it can move the service. If it cannot provide the same or an equivalent service at the new address, in features and price, you may cancel without lock-in charges.

When you move, your provider may be able to take the service with you. If it cannot offer the same service at the new address, you may be able to end the contract. The rules for Portugal are below.

The details

  • Send the cancellation in writing (e-mail is fine) at least 30 days ahead, with a document proving your new residence. The operator may still charge for the service during those 30 days. (anacom-consumidor.pt)
  • Emigrating unexpectedly to a country outside the EU? You may also cancel without lock-in charges, with 30 days' written notice and a residence certificate or work contract from that country. (anacom-consumidor.pt)
  • If you lose the place where the service is provided or move abroad, you can suspend the contract at no cost while the reason lasts. After more than 180 days of suspension you can have it ended. (anacom-consumidor.pt)
