🏥 I have a complaint about a doctor or hospital — who do I go to?

Direct answer

Start with the complaints officer of the hospital or practice — every provider must have one, and most issues are resolved there with an explanation or apology. If not, Zastopnik pacientovih pravic (gov.si) is the independent body for patient complaints in Slovenia: free, and it can investigate. Concerns about a doctor's fitness to practise go to Zdravniška zbornica Slovenije (01 307 21 00). For compensation after a treatment error, Komisija RS za varstvo pacientovih pravic or a lawyer — and ask for your full medical file first, which you are entitled to.

In Slovenia the complaint has two steps: a first request to the provider's designated person (15 days after the event or 30 days after treatment ends), then a second request to the Commission.
