Can I vote by proxy?
Yes, by giving a proxy to a trusted voter. If you can't go on election day, you can entrust your vote to a proxy holder (another voter). It's done via the Maprocuration service: 100% online if you have a France Identité digital identity and the new ID card (bank-card format), or by applying online then having it validated in person at a police station, gendarmerie or consulate. The proxy votes for you at your polling station. Since 2022, your proxy can be registered in a different town from yours. A proxy holder can in principle hold only one proxy established in France.

⚠️ Penalties & fines
The proxy is a framed right: there's no 'penalty' for using it. But making a false proxy, voting for someone without a valid mandate, or collecting proxies by fraud is an electoral offence, severely punished (fines and prison). Make your application early enough before the vote so your town can register it.
