🏛️ Is there a regulated or capped energy price in Greece?

The short answer

In some countries the state or the regulator sets or caps the price households pay. In others, prices are free and you compare offers.

📜 The rules in Greece

Regulated price

There is no state-set household price. Tariffs are colour-coded: blue fixed, green special tariff (price fixed on the 1st of each month), yellow variable, orange dynamic. Households without a supplier get Universal Service at a RAAEY reference tariff plus 5%.

The market

Electricity and gas markets are fully open. Households can freely choose their electricity and natural gas supplier, and switching costs nothing.

❓ Questions

Who sets the price?

See the explanation for Greece on this page.

Can I go back to the regulated price?

That depends on national rules. Check the official source on this page.

Why is my bill higher than the cap?

A cap may apply to the unit price or a typical bill, not your total. Taxes and your use also count.
