📈 My energy supplier is raising prices in Finland. What can I do?

The short answer

A supplier cannot raise your price overnight. It has to warn you in advance, and that notice often gives you the right to leave.

📜 The rules in Finland

Price rises

On an open-ended contract the seller must announce a price or terms change one month before it takes effect; if you don't accept it, you can terminate with two weeks' notice. On a fixed-term contract the price can change only due to new laws or official decisions.

Switching supplier

Make the new contract at least two weeks before it should start; the new seller ends your old contract for you. An open-ended contract can be ended with two weeks' notice. A fixed-term contract runs to its end date (after two years if longer).

❓ Questions

Can a fixed price be raised?

Normally not during the fixed period, unless your contract says so. Taxes and levies can still change.

Do I pay an exit fee if I leave after a price rise?

In many countries you can leave without a fee when the price goes up. The rules for Finland are on this page.

What if I missed the letter?

Ask the supplier for a copy and the date it was sent. If they cannot show proper notice, complain.
