📣 Where do I complain about my energy company in Belgium?

The short answer

Start with the company itself, in writing. If that does not solve it, an independent body settles disputes with energy companies.

📜 The rules in Belgium

What to do first

First try to solve the problem with your supplier or grid operator. If that fails, file a written complaint with the federal Energy Ombudsman within one year; debt collection is suspended while it is handled.

Rules differ by region

  • Flanders — Regulator: Vlaamse Nutsregulator (formerly VREG); compare with the V-test. Grid operator Fluvius. Your supplier cannot cut you off: if it ends your contract, Fluvius becomes your social supplier with a Prepaid meter function.
  • Wallonia — Regulator: CWaPE; compare with CompaCWaPE. Disputes: Service régional de médiation pour l'énergie (SRME). After unpaid bills your supplier may ask for a prepayment meter or go to the justice of the peace, not cut you off directly.
  • Brussels-Capital Region — Regulator: BRUGEL; compare with BRUSIM; disputes: BRUGEL Service des litiges. Cut-off only with a justice of the peace ruling, never 1 October–31 March. Sibelga is grid operator and supplier of last resort.
