📅 How long can a phone or internet contract last in Albania, and how do I end it?

The short answer

A provider may not bind you to an initial contract term longer than 24 months, and it must also offer you a contract of at most 12 months (Law 54/2024, art. 144).

Phone and internet contracts often start with a minimum term and then run on. How long that first term may be, and how much notice you give once it is over, depends on the rules in Albania.

📜 The rules in Albania

The details

  • If your fixed-term contract is extended automatically, you can end it at any time with at most one month's notice, at no extra cost apart from the service you use during the notice period. (akep.al)
  • Before an automatic extension, the provider must tell you clearly, on a durable medium, when the contract ends and how to cancel it, and advise you on its best tariffs. It must give best-tariff advice at least once a year. (akep.al)
  • Leaving a fixed-term contract early can cost a fee, but no more than the base monthly fees for the remaining months or, where your contract has a spending commitment and this is lower, the part not yet spent (AKEP Regulation 49/2021, art. 18). (akep.al)
  • If you keep a phone or router bundled with the contract, you pay at most its pro-rata value. Adding services or devices does not extend your contract term unless you expressly agree. (akep.al)
