📈 My phone or internet price is going up: can I leave my contract in Albania?

The short answer

Your provider must notify you at least one month before any change to your contract terms and tell you that you may leave at no extra cost if you do not accept it. You can use that right within one month of the notice.

When a provider changes the price or terms during your contract, you may have the right to leave without a fee. That depends on what your contract already said about price changes and on the rules in Albania.

📜 The rules in Albania

Price rises built into the contract

Albania's electronic communications law has no specific rule on price indexation clauses. The right to leave at no extra cost applies to changes the provider proposes to your contract terms.

The details

  • The free exit does not apply when the change is solely to your benefit, is purely administrative with no negative effect on you, or is directly imposed by law. (akep.al)
  • If you leave under this right, you pay no compensation for ending the contract early, except what remains due for a subsidised phone or other device. (akep.al)
  • Providers must publish changes to their standard contract terms on their website at least 30 days before they take effect, and submit them to AKEP 15 days before publishing. (akep.al)

❓ Questions

Is a price rise linked to inflation allowed?

It can be, if the contract set it out clearly. Whether it gives you a right to leave is in the rules for Albania on this page.

How much warning must the provider give?

Providers usually have to tell you before the change starts. Where the rules in Albania set a notice period, it is on this page.

What if I miss the deadline to leave?

The new price then usually applies. You can still leave at the end of the minimum term, or with notice if the contract already runs on.
