Can I keep my phone number when I switch provider in Poland?
You can keep your phone number when you change provider, free of charge. The new provider leads the process, and the number must be moved no later than one working day after the agreed start date of the new service (art. 325 Pke).
You can usually take your mobile or landline number with you to a new provider. You ask the new provider to transfer it, and the number moves on an agreed day.
📜 The rules in Poland
Compensation
If the deadline is missed, the old provider owes you one-off compensation per started day of delay: a quarter of the total monthly charges on your last three bills, or for prepaid a quarter of your top-ups in the last three months (art. 326 Pke).
The details
- You keep the right to port your number for one month after your old contract ends, unless you gave it up. Numbers cannot be moved between landline and mobile networks. (eli.gov.pl)
- If the porting fails within 30 days of the agreed date, your notice to the old provider lapses unless you say otherwise. Until the number moves, the old provider must keep or restore your service so you lose it for at most one working day. (eli.gov.pl)
- If your number is ported without your consent, the new provider owes you for each started day half of your average monthly charge from your last three bills; for prepaid, half of your top-ups in the last three months. (eli.gov.pl)
- Prepaid: after porting, the provider must refund your remaining credit on request, including to your bank account; a cost-based fee may be deducted. Before porting it must tell you by SMS; the right expires 6 months after porting. (eli.gov.pl)
UKE – wniosek o interwencję
Ask UKE to intervene if a provider fails to carry out, or wrongly carries out, a switch, number porting or number change, or may have broken the Pke. Send the request by post, e-Doręczenia, ePUAP or the PUE UKE form.
Prezes UKE – pozasądowe rozwiązywanie sporów konsumenckich (ADR)
Free out-of-court settlement of your dispute with a telecom provider, after you have filed a complaint with it.
🪜 Step by step
- Do not cancel the old contract firstIf you end the old contract before the transfer, the number can be lost. Let the new provider request the transfer.
- Get your details readyYou usually need the number, the name on the old contract and sometimes a customer number or transfer code from the old provider.
- Agree the transfer dateThe new provider tells you when the number moves. Keep the old SIM or line in use until then.
- Check that everything worksTest calls and messages on the new SIM or line, and check that the old provider sends a final bill and stops charging.

❓ Questions
How long does a number transfer take?
It is usually quick. If the rules in Poland set a maximum time or compensation for delays, you find them on this page.
Can I keep my number if I still owe the old provider money?
You still have to pay what you owe under the old contract. Ask the new provider before you switch whether anything could hold up the transfer.
Can I move a mobile number to a landline, or the other way round?
Usually not: mobile numbers move between mobile providers, landline numbers between landline providers.
