How long can a phone or internet contract last in Poland, and how do I end it?
For consumers, a fixed-term telecom contract may last at most 24 months, and the provider must also offer you one of at most 12 months. After an automatic renewal, you can cancel at any time with one month's notice (art. 301–302 Pke).
Phone and internet contracts often start with a minimum term and then run on. How long that first term may be, and how much notice you give once it is over, depends on the rules in Poland.
📜 The rules in Poland
The details
- At least 30 days before the term ends, the provider must send you on a durable medium clear information on the automatic renewal, any changed conditions, how and when to cancel, and its best tariff plans for your services. (eli.gov.pl)
- During the one-month notice after renewal, you pay only for the services in your contract and any packages or options you ordered. After renewal, the provider must tell you its best tariff plans at least once a year. (eli.gov.pl)
- Ordering extra services or a promotional device does not extend your contract term unless you agree to it. (eli.gov.pl)
- If you end a fixed-term contract early, the provider may claim compensation, but no more than the service part of the fees you would still pay until the term ends, plus the device part if you got a promotional device. (eli.gov.pl)
