How do I switch my phone or internet provider in Poland?
When you switch internet provider, the new provider leads the process and the switch itself is free. Your service may be interrupted for at most one working day, and the old provider keeps serving you until the new one starts (art. 318–319 Pke).
Switching is mostly paperwork: the network stays where it is, only the company that provides your service changes. Who arranges the switch and how long the service may be down depends on the rules in Poland.
📜 The rules in Poland
The details
- You choose the mode: with your old contract's notice period, without it on a date you set, or at the end of your promotional term. Without notice, you pay the old provider at most one billing period's subscription, plus early-exit compensation on a fixed-term contract. (eli.gov.pl)
- If the new provider misses the agreed start date, it owes you one-off compensation for each started day of delay: a quarter of the total monthly charges on your last three bills. Not due for delays of up to one working day. (eli.gov.pl)
- If the new service has not started within 30 days of the agreed date, your notice to the old provider lapses unless you say otherwise, and the new contract counts as never concluded. (eli.gov.pl)
- If your old internet contract included an email address carrying the provider's brand, you can ask for free access to that mailbox for 6 months after the contract ends. (eli.gov.pl)
UKE – wniosek o interwencję
Ask UKE to intervene if a provider fails to carry out, or wrongly carries out, a switch, number porting or number change, or may have broken the Pke. Send the request by post, e-Doręczenia, ePUAP or the PUE UKE form.
Prezes UKE – pozasądowe rozwiązywanie sporów konsumenckich (ADR)
Free out-of-court settlement of your dispute with a telecom provider, after you have filed a complaint with it.

❓ Questions
Will I be without phone or internet when I switch?
There can be a short break on the switching day. Ask both providers for the planned date, and see the rules for Poland on this page.
Can I switch before my contract ends?
Yes, but while the minimum term is still running you may have to pay an exit fee or the remaining monthly charges. Check your contract summary first.
Do I have to cancel the old contract myself?
That depends on the service and the rules in Poland. Ask the new provider and keep written confirmation of the end date.
