📵 My phone or internet is down: do I get compensation in Liechtenstein?

The short answer

If your phone or internet service persistently or frequently falls well short of the contract, you may cancel at no cost. Your provider's terms must also state what compensation or refund applies when agreed minimum quality is not met (VKND Art. 17 and 14).

When your line is down, your provider has to repair it. In some countries you get compensation if a fault is not fixed in time; what applies in Liechtenstein, and what it means for emergency calls, is below.

📜 The rules in Liechtenstein

Compensation

No fixed statutory compensation amount was found. Compensation and refunds depend on your provider's terms, which must contain such rules (VKND Art. 14).

Emergency calls

Emergency calls and texts must be free and reachable without interruption; 112 also accepts text-based emergency calls, roaming users included, and your number is passed on even if you hide it (VKND Art. 31).

The details

  • The Communications Act gives you the right to end the contract within a month without extra costs in case of persistent or frequently occurring faults (KomG Art. 17). (gesetze.li)
  • Even if your service is cut for unpaid bills, access to emergency numbers may not be blocked, and a cut-off needs a prior reminder with at least two weeks' grace (VKND Art. 25). (gesetze.li)
  • In a total network outage or force majeure, the government must take all necessary measures to keep voice and internet services as available as possible (KomG Art. 15). (gesetze.li)

❓ Questions

Can I still call emergency services during an outage?

Emergency calls from a mobile phone usually go through any available network. If your phone cannot connect, ask someone nearby to call.

Is a short outage compensated?

Usually only longer faults or missed repair appointments are. The rule for Liechtenstein, if there is one, is on this page.

What if the faults keep coming back?

Repeated faults can give you the right to a lower price or to end the contract. Ask the regulator or the dispute body.
