📝 What must I get before I sign a phone or internet contract in Malta, and can I change my mind?

The short answer

Before you sign, the provider must give you a short contract summary free of charge, with the main terms such as price, duration, renewal and termination. The contract only takes effect once you confirm your agreement after receiving it.

Before you sign, you should get the key terms in writing: price, term, speed and how to leave. In many countries a short contract summary is required, and contracts made online, by phone or at your door usually come with a cooling-off period. The rules for Malta are below.

📜 The rules in Malta

The details

  • The summary may be at most one page for one service or three pages for a bundle. You can also ask for it just to compare plans, without subscribing. (mca.org.mt)
  • The provider must obtain your explicit consent through your signature on a durable medium, and give you a copy of that consent. (mca.org.mt)
  • For a contract concluded at a distance or off-premises, you have 14 days to withdraw without giving a reason, counted from the day the service contract is concluded. After an unsolicited home visit, the period is 30 days. (legislation.mt)
  • The summary and pre-contract information become part of your contract and cannot be changed unless both sides expressly agree. (legislation.mt)

Usually not: it normally covers contracts made online, by phone or away from the shop.

Do I pay for days I already used?

What if I never got a contract summary?

Tell the provider in writing and ask the regulator what this means for your contract in Malta.
