📈 My phone or internet price is going up: can I leave my contract in Cyprus?

The short answer

Your provider must announce any change to your contract terms at least one month ahead. If you reject it, you may cancel without penalty within one month of the notice, unless the change only benefits you, is purely administrative or is required by law.

When a provider changes the price or terms during your contract, you may have the right to leave without a fee. That depends on what your contract already said about price changes and on the rules in Cyprus.

📜 The rules in Cyprus

The details

  • The notice must state the proposed change and your right to cancel without penalty within one month. If the change is long, the provider may refer you to its website for the details. (ocecpr.ee.cy)
  • If you end the contract early under such a right, you owe no compensation except for subsidised equipment you keep, and for that at most its pro-rata value agreed when you signed. (ocecpr.ee.cy)

❓ Questions

Is a price rise linked to inflation allowed?

It can be, if the contract set it out clearly. Whether it gives you a right to leave is in the rules for Cyprus on this page.

How much warning must the provider give?

Providers usually have to tell you before the change starts. Where the rules in Cyprus set a notice period, it is on this page.

What if I miss the deadline to leave?

The new price then usually applies. You can still leave at the end of the minimum term, or with notice if the contract already runs on.
