📅 How long can a phone or internet contract last in Cyprus, and how do I end it?

The short answer

A phone or internet contract may not bind you for more than 24 months. After an automatic renewal you can end it at any time with at most one month's notice, paying only the service during the notice and the administrative cost of disconnection.

Phone and internet contracts often start with a minimum term and then run on. How long that first term may be, and how much notice you give once it is over, depends on the rules in Cyprus.

📜 The rules in Cyprus

The details

  • Before an automatic renewal, your provider must tell you clearly, in good time and on a durable medium, that your commitment is ending and how to cancel. It must also give you best-tariff advice at least once a year. (ocecpr.ee.cy)
  • Adding extra services or equipment from the same provider does not extend your original contract term, unless you explicitly agree to that when you sign up for them. (ocecpr.ee.cy)
  • In a bundle that includes internet or a phone number, if you have the right to end one part of it, you can end the contract for all parts. (ocecpr.ee.cy)
  • The 24-month limit does not cover a separate instalment contract only for installing the physical connection. Such a contract may not include a router or modem and does not take away your other rights. (ocecpr.ee.cy)
