📟 Smart meter in Estonia: do I have to accept one?

The short answer

A smart meter sends readings automatically, so your bill is based on real use. Whether you can refuse one differs per country.

📜 The rules in Estonia

Smart meter

Nearly all homes already have remotely read meters, so you don't need to submit readings. Elektrilevi is replacing hourly meters with 15-minute meters by 1 March 2035. From 1 September 2026 you can ask for a meter giving near-real-time data.
