Can I walk on private beaches in Denmark?
Yes — the Danish coast belongs to everyone: beaches are open for walking, bathing and short stays. Nature Protection Act § 22 grants the right to walk along all beaches — including past private plots — and to bathe and stay briefly (sunbathing, a picnic). The conditions: on privately owned beaches, staying and bathing must happen at least 50 m from dwellings; access runs along the beach (never through gardens); dogs go on leads 1 April–30 September; and motor vehicles are banned. "Private beach — no access" signs facing the shore are as a rule invalid: the owner owns the sand, not the right to close it.
