📈 My phone or internet price is going up: can I leave my contract in Slovakia?

The short answer

If the provider changes your contract, such as raising the price, you can withdraw without penalty within one month of notice. It must announce the change at least one month ahead on a durable medium and tell you about this right (§ 87 Act 452/2021).

When a provider changes the price or terms during your contract, you may have the right to leave without a fee. That depends on what your contract already said about price changes and on the rules in Slovakia.

📜 The rules in Slovakia

Price rises built into the contract

The Act has no special rule for inflation-linked (index) price rises, and the official pages checked do not say whether an index clause agreed in advance gives you the right to withdraw.

The details

  • The right does not apply to changes that are solely in your favour, purely administrative, have no negative effect on you, or are required by law. (static.slov-lex.sk)
  • A notice by SMS also counts, if it mentions your right to withdraw and where to find the details of the change. (static.slov-lex.sk)
  • The general terms and price list are part of your contract, and the provider may not change the terms unilaterally unless the Act allows it. (static.slov-lex.sk)
  • RÚ cannot declare a contract unlawful or void; only a court can, for example over an unfair term. Consumers can also turn to consumer organisations. (teleoff.gov.sk)

❓ Questions

Is a price rise linked to inflation allowed?

It can be, if the contract set it out clearly. Whether it gives you a right to leave is in the rules for Slovakia on this page.

How much warning must the provider give?

Providers usually have to tell you before the change starts. Where the rules in Slovakia set a notice period, it is on this page.

What if I miss the deadline to leave?

The new price then usually applies. You can still leave at the end of the minimum term, or with notice if the contract already runs on.
